Wittle Creatures.

Some small sea creatures I sketched in my little brother's art class today.
[I realize this is not calligraphy, but it is semi-kind of under the same category.]
        Seww cuuute.

Invited.

My first official "mass" project -20 invitations for my good friend's party. It was great experience for consistency with my fonts, and now I have two definite ones. Still thinking up names...[So exciting!]

For this ink I used Betsy's gouache technique of mixing the watercolor pigment with water in a little glass.  I used two purples for this project, and the blue heart is painted with my new purchase - Yasutomo pearlescent watercolors!!! They are my complete new fave ♥.

Alphabeat.

Just some random lettering I've been working on.  Working on a font kind of in this style.

Art Exchange.

For my friend Zach's birthday he had an art exchange!  Instead of bringing gifts, everyone brought a creation of their own, then we traded, white elephant style. This is what I made to bring.

For Meggie:

The envelope for a welcoming card to my freshman buddy at school this year. She is such a cutie, and her other senior buddy, my good friend Allison, decided I should use my newfound skillz to welcome her at our school's annual freshman/senior breakfast.

Greeeen.

Recently my project mentor Betsy Dunlap , (a renowned calligrapher, with absolutely beautiful work, go check her out...) has been showing me how to mix gouache in little glasses to obtain colored ink.  It's been a blast!

Continued Dreams.

This project was so whimsical, and such fun to do. :D
My apologies for the fuzziness, just click to view a clearer version!

I Had a Dream

To start, this (above) is my very first official "project;" lyrics to the song "Dream" by Priscilla Ahn, with a watercolor incorporated. This project was a gift for my friend Kelly's 17th Birthday.

Hello There.

Why hello there world wide web, I am Sarah Grimes.

I am an avid calligrapher, as of a few short months ago, and this blog shall hopefully show my progress, as this is my senior expo project for school.

I shall be updating my work throughout the year, as it is required to journal and take lots of pictures...
I thought a blog would be a fun way to go about it!
Also, I will most likely include random snippets of my lovely, joyful life.

This should be bundles of fun.
